Since the time when there was not much known about the tourism industry and since the time when research began, a large number of works have been published.
For the Liberal Arts (LA) Course, Professor Endo Hideki of Ritsumeikan University’s Literature Department gave a lecture on high and large corporations. Professor Endo’s field of specialty is in regional research of the field of tourism and literature. This time, Professor Endo with his abundant knowledge and numerous examples explained about tourism from the basics to the current “alternative tourism”.
1. The point of this time’s lecture is the development of the combination of tourism and media. The best example of this phenomenon would be Disney Land Resort. This is where media has created an image of a kingdom where people can experience actual places of the world. Though, the image of “dreams” that is produced by Disney Resort is reflective of the sense of values of America, it is indispensable to the study of tourism. As a result, tourism of today has been greatly influenced by media, which is something that was not thought of before but will certainly be considered in the study of tourism from this point and onward which will prove to be beneficial for students of this field.
