SAKURA Exchange Program in Science in Keisho

54 students have visited us from India and Vietnam to exchange with Keisho students ~Hover craft designing and racing~

An international science exchange program was held at Ritsumeikan Keisho with 54 students and 9 teachers from India and Vietnam via SAKURA Exchange Program in Science*1. The program contained cultural exchange and scientific cooperative activity of “Hovercraft Challenge,”*2 which is hover craft designing and racing. In this challenge, students from 3 different countries were mixed and divided into several groups, and they made the original hovercraft to compete for the running distance. Without any given design drawings, students used some familiar materials such as cardboards, styrene boards and rubber balloons to build up their own crafts. In competition, many groups had problems like no motion or non-straight driving, however, students were discussing improvement plan even after the race. We hope visiting students had a good time and were inspired to extend their global mind in science.

*1 The program for enhancing exchanges between Asia and Japan of the youths who will play a crucial role in the future field of science and technology through the close collaboration of industry-academia-government by facilitating short-term visits of competent Asian youths to Japan, promoted by Japan Science and Technology Agency.
*2 The teaching material developed by Dr. Makoto Hasegawa and Sapporo Keisei High School
